FABRIC/TEXTILES
Designtex
Celebrating inquiry and collaboration, Designtex, a design and product development firm, introduces another collection this year called Material Matters. As the third collection to come from its ongoing relationship with the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, Material Matters draws its inspiration from the architecture of various Guggenheim museums around the world. Inspired by the rotunda of the Frank Lloyd Wright designed museum in New York, Die-Cut Ingeo&tm;, a lightweight 100% Ingeo drapery, is created by fusing, embossing, and die-cutting the fabric with a swirling, circular cut-out pattern and is available in an elegant architectural white.
"By integrating Ingeo as one of our key sustainable products, Designtex is a step closer to serving one of our main goals: inspiring others to think about sustainability as a staple of design," states Carol Derby, Designtex director of research and development.
fabricteria Maki
fabricteria Maki debuts the new Jewels for your home collection-custom-designed and hand sewn panels that can be used as window treatments, space dividers, wall hangings, or art pieces. IFM - International Fashion Machines
Utilizing an electronic sensor that controls a lamp's light levels with just a tap, IFM introduces a fun and fuzzy five-inch puff lamp. Made 100% of textiles, the new ElectroPUFFTM is hand-made from recycled carpet fibers and works with any incandescent lamp. The bold colors and unique appearance appeal to both children and adults.
IFM also debuts Petal Pusher, an interactive textile and light installation. Machine embroidered on DesignTex wool felt and hand-tufted with electronic yarns, the Petal Pusher is activated by touch, sending an electric signal to brighten and dim the lights. With 49 unique patterns to choose from in numerous configurations, the Petal Pusher effectively combines textiles and light to produce a true work of art.
Ingeo
Derived entirely from man-made sources, Ingeo Fiber made its debut five years ago and continues to be at the forefront of the textile market. As the world's first man-made fiber made of 100% annually renewable resources, Ingeo fiber provides the benefits of a natural fiber, while touting the performance benefits of a synthetic. With green design becoming increasingly important to more and more designers and clients, Ingeo Fiber is a great option for designers looking to reduce the impact that oil and other fossil fuels have on our environment.
NanoSonic Inc.
Recently, NanoSonic Inc. was awarded one of R&D Magazine's 2007 R&D 100 award for the development of its Metal RubberTM Textiles. These low-weight and highly-flexible fabrics were named one of the 100 "most technologically significant new products of the year," unique because of the nanotechnology manufacturing process. These textiles can act as electromagnetic shielding materials, sensors, smart clothing (e-Textiles), medical instrumentation devices, flexible solar arrays, and ultra-light weight flexible antennas, among more.

Its ability to print in various formats, including reactive, pigment, VATS, acids, disperse, discharge, and burnout, and its coloration technique and construction options, makes Standfast & Barracks a great resource for designers from start to finish.
