I heard somewhere that the new stewards of the environment don’t hug trees, they measure their carbon uptake. In our first-ever green issue, various eco-sensitive terms, carbon footprint and others, are defined. Learn how to invest in going green, take in green-design examples and tips, and read about the environmental initiatives of high-profile industry leaders.Earth-friendly window-covering and interiors products can be found, along with additional resources for you to green your business practices, your home office, and clients’ homes and workplaces. WF also showcases fine craftsmanship; the winning 2008 Ingenuity Workroom Competition creations can be found on page 60. The green feature section has been printed on recycled stock—a small, but meaningful, contribution to the reduce-reuse-recycle mantra. Grace McNamara Inc., publisher of Window Fashions, supports eco-awareness throughout the pages of our magazine, not only with this month’s informative green-related content, but in every issue by using our purchasing power to select a printing company that takes its environmental responsibilities just as seriously as we do. Brown Printing was recently awarded the Forest Steward Council Chain of Custody Certification. The company also reconditions and reuses materials, invests in virtual proofing to eliminate the need for paper proofs, and re-filters its ink for reuse. While encouraging these efforts, as well as supporting the industry’s green-design momentum, we hope Window Fashions, like classic décor, will withstand the test of time and warrant a place on your bookshelf instead of in your recycling bin. Here’s to a sustainably designed future! |
